A Day in the Forest

Its no surprise that May remains a popular choice for brides in Brisbane to tie the knot. The weather was perfect for our shoot with the sun shining brightly on the bride and groom in the best possible way.

Recently I teamed up with some talented vendors from Brisbane and surrounds to create a styled shoot inspired by Artemis and Greek mythology.

Burgundy and gold accents through the fabulous florals and tableware and a string of gorgeous bridal gowns in a woodland setting helped to create the perfect scene.

Classic Mother of the Bride Makeup

It’s your wedding day but also a wonderful day for your mum and your partners mum too. Follow my suggestions below for a classic mother of the bride makeup that will turn heads!

Eyes: Don’t use a liquid liner or black eyeliner, as this can look way too harsh. Stick with a pencil to line the upper lash line and smudge in with a brush for a softer effect. Try www.maccosmetics.com.au pencil in ‘Stubborn Brown’. Follow with neutral colours for the lids. Line the inner rim with a flesh coloured liner from Bourjois like ‘taupe of the top’ from www.priceline.com to really open up the eyes. Apply individual lashes to enhance the eyes. I use and recommend Helen Dowsley lash via www.helendowsley.com.au

Cheeks: Use a cream blush first on the apples of the cheeks and layer a powder blush over the top for staying power. I love Stila cosmetics combined lip and cheek palette from www.mecca.com.au for cream blush.

Skin: Always use a primer first and then a moisturizing foundation like Bobbi Brown Skin Nourishing Glow Foundation available at www.mecca.com.au which is perfect for normal to dry skin. Avoid powder as it tends to settle in fine lines or just lightly sweep it over the T- Zone.
Finish with a setting spray like mac Fix+ to set makeup and give it staying power.

Lips: Use a lip pencil to line and fill the lips first. Try a longwearing lipstick and remember that darker colours can make the lips look thinner so stick with moreof the neutral tones. www.bobbibrown.com.au creamy lip colours work well and are packed with shea butter to moisturize.

How to Have Beautiful Wedding Day Makeup

If you want to radiate confidence and look the best version of you on your wedding day follow my advice for beautiful bridal makeup.

1. Choose the right makeup artist. Your artist will spend a considerable amount of time with you on one of the most important days of your life so it's important that they are genuine and respectful as well as well as being able to create your perfect look.

2. Try to have an idea of how you would like to look on your wedding day; soft, romantic, modern and elegant. You could gather some magazine images or put together a pinterest board to discuss with your makeup artist.

3. Establish with your artist whether you have a particular theme or are incorporating a colour into your styling, flowers or gown that you would like your makeup to compliment.

4. Ask what products will be used and how they will ensure your makeup lasts and where your artist learned to apply makeup.

5. Use your makeup trial to take your time to ‘get the look right’. A good makeup artist will make a plan of the exact look decided on and all of the products used so on the day you can just relax and enjoy the experience in the company of friends and family.

Hot Weather Makeup Tips - How to Make Your Makeup Last

It looks like the humidity is never going to end so I’ve listed below some of my tips to give your make up some ‘staying power’.

1. Never underestimate the power of a primer underneath your foundation and on the eye lids to prevent creasing and set the colour. For the skin I recommend Stila’s ‘One Step Correct’ as it also has a colour correcting serum built in and for the eyelids ‘Too Faced’ Shadow Insurance both available from Mecca.

2. If you can get away with it why not try a light coverage foundation such as ‘Smashbox’ camera ready BB cream from Mecca. or Clarins hyraquench tinted moisturiser from Clarins and only apply it where necessary.

3. My all time favourite blush for those days when it just seems impossible to keep makeup on is the 'Stila’ convertible colour palette. The colour blends on and builds easily and all of the colours can be used on the lips as well.

4. Lightly sweep the T-zone with a powder from Hourglass available at Mecca or find ‘Maybelline’ Fit Me powder at Priceline.

5. Try a waterproof mascara such as Revlon’s all in one ultimate from Priceline or for a high-end product with not much of a price difference try the Nars audacious mascara from Mecca which clearly makes a statement.

6. When your makeup is on I always recommend Mac Fix+ and spray it on in an x-shape across my face for the ultimate setting power. If Mac is not your thing NYX also have a setting spray which delivers.

7. Last but not least always carry Swisspers blotting paper in your purse to absorb oils when touching up through out the day.
